The awesome folks over at the Livable Streets Initiative have a fascinating overview of the burgeoning "skinny streets" movement, which aims to overcome the vestigial concerns (room for a four-horse wagon to make a U-turn?!?!) and paranoid contingency plans (passing lanes for military vehicles?!) that left us with a legacy of overly-wide streets and all the danger they invite.
